Does anyone remember John's Pool located just south of Trion? It was the place to swim during the 1950s.
This photograph was taken from an April 1956 promotional booklet entitled Summerville: The City of Young Men, compiled by the Summerville Merchants Association and the Summerville Industrial Development Corporation, with the help of the Area Development Division of the Georgia Power Company. I'm assuming the photograph was taken the previous year.
Sewell Cash remembers a party given inside the building for the 1950 State Championship Basketball Team. Steve Edwards remembers visiting the pool many times during the summers and spending most of the day. He also remembers a concrete block trough that delivered water from the adjacent hilltop.
The pool closed sometime in the late 1950s or early 1960s, perhaps due to competition from the new pool at the Summerville Recreation Center.
